Even the weather can’t dampen our spirits when we set out on an excursion through Lancaster County. Such was the case on Saturday when the skies looked gloomy, the wind was blowing and spring flowers seemed like they were put on “hold” for the day.
But it didn’t stop our tour guests from enjoying the back roads, sharing jokes and laughing, and exploring hidden gems of Amish culture that had somehow escaped all of their previous trips.

These were seasoned visitors of our two bed and breakfasts. They had been to Lancaster County many times...and decided to take part in our first ever Amish Culinary Tour. Judging from the thank-you notes that we both received by email, we accomplished our goal of introducing these folks to new places that they would never have found on their own.
Carl (The Harvest Moon B&B) and I (The Artist’s Inn) had scoured the pristine countryside several weeks earlier looking for businesses that were willing to give a “behind-the-scenes” look at all things Amish – from the baking of whoopie pies to canning red beets to the manufacturing of buggies. These were our secret places – some belonged to friends that opened their homes, others were buried deep in the heart of Amish country waiting to be discovered.

And so we listened and learned, shopped and sampled goodies like home-made chips, warm soft pretzels, and hand-dipped ice cream, and visited many furries – from friendly dogs and cats and horses to one-week old calves - and generally “boosted” our spirits – no matter what the weather.
One of our guests, whose name shall remain anonymous to protect the guilty, was too nice for her own good. Sporting an air cast for her broken foot, she insisted in sitting in the middle of the van so as not to inconvenience anyone. This required a different kind of "boost" up the steps of the van…..as you can see!Join us on one of our tours and you’ll experience a boost too!
